PETAL, MS (wdam) - The Petal High School band is working hard to march their way to President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural parade on Jan. 20.

The 160 performing members of the band are looking to raise $68,000 dollars by Jan. 13 to help pay for their trip.

Several area businessess and organizations have already donated over $15,000 to the band's fund, but they are far from reaching their goal. Band Director Mike Garnand said they are hoping the community will come out, show support and donate money to help.

Garnand said on Jan. 7 and 14, Chili's in Petal will be donating part of their proceeds to the band for the parade. Penn's in Petal that will donate 50 percent of their Jan. 8 profits to the Petal band, and Southern Lanes in Petal will be donating 50 cents per game on Saturday to the Petal Band, added Garnand.

The  band will also be putting on their uniforms early and marching door to door in Petal on Jan. 10 trying to raise more money by selling soda and fish fry.
