Fourth candidate enters Petal mayoral race

A fourth candidate has jumped into this year's race for mayor of Petal.

Adam Johnson, 24, announced his plans to run at his campaign kickoff last month.

Johnson is a south Forrest County native who has lived in Petal with his wife and two children for two years. He owns an independent insurance agency in Laurel.

He will face Petal school teacher Hal Marx, former alderman Joe McMurry and incumbent Petal Mayor Carl Scott in the May Republican primary.

Johnson said Petal needs a new generation of leadership and claims he can bring it. He also claimed his administration would encourage transparency.

Candidates have until March 6 to qualify.
