Campaign to restore old Hattiesburg High falls short

An Internet fundraising campaign to restore the old Hattiesburg High School has fallen far short of its goal.

The Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association started the campaign in July with a goal of receiving $100 from 1,000 people.

Betsy Rowell, executive director of the HHDA, said the organization has so far raised $30,000. The organization will now try other fundraising methods.

The association already has $1.7 million dollars in grants and federally earmarked funds for phase one of the project.
