Jones County family escapes early morning house fire

A Jones County family of four is lucky to be alive.

A 3 a.m. fire Friday in Calhoun community destroyed the home of James and Danielle Dyess on Crepe Myrtle road.

The fire broke out while the Dyess' and their two boys were sleeping on the second floor. They awoke to find the front of the home in flames, but they escaped unharmed through a back door.

Firefighters from Hebron, Soso, Calhoun and Pleasant Ridge took about an hour to get the blaze under control, but they could not save the house.

Another fire recently destroyed a mobile home in Hebron the same night.

"It's a lot more fires here recently than what there really should be," said Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan KcKenna. "In fact, they were out on previous structure fire in the Hebron area. So you know two house fires for one district in one night, it certainly took a toll on the personnel."

The cause of both fires is under investigation.
