Man gets life for killing federal witness

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A man convicted of killing a federal

witness and decapitating her has been sentenced to life in prison

without parole.

Joe Lewis Collins was convicted in September of murder and

conspiracy to commit murder in the 2003 slaying of Clovis Reed. He

was sentenced Friday by a federal judge in Jackson.

Reed's body was found April 4, 2003, in a wooded area in Simpson

County a week before she was scheduled to testify in an

embezzlement case.

Three other people have been convicted in the case and have

received sentences ranging from 25 years to life.
