GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - The new state Senate Housing Committee
will spend Monday visiting organizations that help Mississippi
Delta residents find affordable housing.
Sen. Robert Jackson of Marks says affordable housing has been a
crisis for decades in the Delta. Jackson and other members of the
housing committee will hold a hearing at the Greenville Higher
Education Center Monday night to discuss solutions to the crisis.
The 2000 U.S. Census data shows nearly one in three Washington
County households spend more than 30 percent of their incomes on

one of its first moves is to tour the Delta and hold a hearing.
Jackson says he hopes the hearing and tour will help the committee
come up with something dramatic that will address the housing
