Smoking ban ready for vote

GRENADA, Miss. (AP) - The Grenada City Council will vote Dec. 8

on an ordinance that would ban smoking in public places in the

city.

The council gave tentative approeel to the ordinance this week

during a work session.

The proposed ordinance would prohibit smoking in bars,

restaurants and indoor public places. It would not apply to tobacco

stores, or to private residences unless they were being used for

child care, adult day care or health care.

The ordinance calls for signs prohibiting smoking and tobacco

posted at the primary entrance of the business.

A first violation would carry a $25 fine with $50 for the second

offense and $250 for the third offense.
