Hattiesburg hit and run victim also shot twice

A 14-year-old Hattiesburg youth is behind bars, charged with last weekend's hit and run of what was thought to be a pedestrian, but now police say the victim was also shot twice.

Jamerie Wilson is in jail charged with aggravated assault in a hit and run accident on Taylor Street on Sunday. Authorities at the time said a still unidentified pedestrian was struck by a gold-colored sedan, which was later found abandoned on Old Airport Road in Palmers Crossing.

Sources tell WDAM the gold car belonged to the victim. He was taken to a hospital and authorities discovered he had been shot two times in the head. He remains in critical condition in ICU.

There are also reports blood was found inside the abandoned car.

Police don't know if the victim was shot first then run over, or vice versa.

Wilson was arrested at his Ezekial Street home after a Crimestoppers tip to authorities.
