A Texas man is in jail in Hattiesburg, accused of trying to transport hundreds of pounds of marijuana through the Hub City. 35-year-old Alexander Lara, of Weslaco, was arrested by officers in the Hattiesburg Police Department's Highway Interdiction Team around 7 p.m. Friday.
Officers say they discovered about 500 pounds of pot in the trailer part of Lara's 18-wheel truck, after it had been pulled over on Interstate-59 on a routine traffic stop. Lara faces one count of possession of marijuana over 5 kilograms with the intent to deliver.
Officers say the drugs have a street value of $250,000.
