Deputy sentenced in overtime case

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - A former Adams County Sheriff's Office

deputy has received a one-year suspended sentence in a fraud case.

Former Major Bill McDaniel, 61, entered a best interest plea

Friday when he appeared before Circuit Court Judge Al Johnson on

charges of false representation. In a best interest plea, a

defendant acknowledges there is enough evidence for a conviction

but does not admit guilt.

Johnson handed down a sentence of one-year jail time, which was

suspended, a $1,000 fine and probation.

The Mississippi Attorney General's Office says McDaniel was

accused of claiming $5,800 in overtime that he was not entitled to

do.
