The Marion-Walthall County Jail is getting an addition. The side housing county inmates is experiencing overcrowding issues forcing inmates to sleep on mats on the floor. The Marion County Board of Supervisors will take bids in December to expand.
The project is expected to cost around $3 million. Sheriff Berkley Hall said this addition will make the facility safer for inmates and deputies.
Berkley said 110 beds will be added, and tax payers will not see an increase in their taxes because the county receives money to house state inmates.
