TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Officials say Toyota Tsusho America, Inc.,
will locate two operations in northeast Mississippi to supply the
Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant now under construction.
Tsusho, a member of the Toyota Group of companies plans to open
a joint venture steel processing facility on the Toyota site at
Gov. Haley Barbour said in a statement a second Toyota Tsusho
plant across U.S. 78 will provide tire-and-wheel assembly.
The $1.3 billion Toyota vehicle plant will begin building the
hybrid-electric Prius in 2010.
Reports about a new supplier surfaced earlier this year when
Aberdeen-based Eutaw Construction began clearing a 30-acre site
just east of the main plant site.
Company officials estimate the two operations together could
employ up to 70 people. The vehicle plant itself is expected to
employ 2,000-3,000 people initially.
