State higher education commissioner resigns

The state's commissioner of higher education officially announced he would be stepping down via a public statement released today.

Thomas Meredith formally announced his decision to retire from the position of commissioner, effective close of business Nov. 15.

Until that time, he said he would be available to the IHL Board on an as-needed basis. The Board is expected to accept the resignation during its next meeting, scheduled for Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. at the IHL Executive Office in Jackson.
