An oil rig fire in Jones County caused residents in the Sharon Community to be evaluated shortly before noon today.
Authorities said a triplex unit owned by Venture Oil and Gas company caught fire around 11:45 a.m.
Fire officials said the triplex unit, along with a metal building and a company truck, burned in the fire.
Authorities said the flames at one point reached 50 to 60 feet in the air and smoke was visible miles away. Authorities saiid families living within 500 feet of the oil rig were evacuated.
Nearly a half dozen fire stations throughout the county helped battle the blaze. Fire officials said there were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
