PRCC to launch utility lineman program

Pearl River Community College has established a new program and has been awarded land and nearly a half million dollars to fund it.

The Hattiesburg/Forrest County Industrial Park Commission gave PRCC 22 acres of land to start its Utility Lineman Technology Program. The program also received $450,000 from the National Science Foundation.

PRCC President William Lewis said entry level positions in the industry can earn around $50,000 a year.

The program is scheduled to start in the summer of 2009.
