Senior Olympics held in Purvis

Senior citizens from around South Mississippi gathered at Bass Memorial Academy in Purvis Thursday to take part in the Oxford Senior Olympics.

One hundred and thirty nine contestants from 17 different nursing homes showed they still had it in them as they competed against one another in various games. The events included an olympic torch run, banner presentations and races.This was the largest Oxford Senior Olympics ever held and the first since Hurricane Katrina.

Bronze, silver and gold medals as well as team trophies were presented to the winners.
