Authorities say an Alabama man died in a one-vehicle crash while driving laps at Columbus Speedway after sanctioned racing events had ended.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said 20-year-old Carl Thomas McReynolds died early Saturday when he was ejected from his pickup truck. McReynolds was from the Vernon area of Lamar County, Alabama.
Merchant says McReynolds was not a race competitor but took a truck onto the track during the early morning hours.
The coroner says the truck went out of control and overturned several times. A passenger was treated at a hospital and released.
