In Louisiana, authorities say a Lafayette Parish School bus has been involved in an accident near Comeaux High school.
The bus, carrying 15 elementary students, was struck by a car. Officials say the car, carrying a mother and her two children, and caught on fire.
The driver and passengers of the car were pulled to safety by the residents of a nearby apartment complex. The three were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Six children on the school bus were taken to a local hospital for observation.
No life-threatening injuries were reported at the scene.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections has locked down all prisons in its system for the weekend. MDOC announced the weekend lockdown on Twitter on Friday, saying that there would be no visitation, commissary or outside recreation this weekend. With inclement weather expected Sunday, the University of Southern Mississippi will wrap up its Conference USA baseball series with Middle Tennessee State University with a Saturday doubleheader at Pete Taylor Park.
