Mississippi adds thousands of new voters

Hundreds of thousands of new voters have registered in Mississippi this year.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann puts the number at 162,000 new voters, and he says it is not just young people signing up. Many older people have registered for the first time as well, he said. The deadline was Oct. 4, but many circuit clerks still have boxes of names that still have to be entered into the system.

Officials plan to send out voter cards as soon as they can process the new registrations.
