Hattiesburg schools to test students suspected of using drugs, alcohol

Hattiesburg public schools have been given the go ahead to test students suspected of alcohol or drug use.

The school board approved the policy Tuesday. With it, a student who shows signs of drug or alcohol use will be taken to a medical facility for testing within five hours. Administrators will be trained by Hattiesburg police to recognize signs of alcohol and drug use.

The policy goes into effect as soon as all parents and students are informed and administrators are trained.
