Deadly shooting in Mt. Olive headed to grand jury

A Covington County grand jury will have to determine whether Sunday night's deadly shooting in Mt. Olive man was murder, or self defense.

Sheriff Ben Ford said Clarence Gillespie, 65, was shot to death at a residence in the 100 block of Leonard Road in Mt. Olive.

Gillespie was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities questioned Robert Sullivan, 58, in connection with the shooting. According to authorities, Sullivan said he fired in self-defense.

Ford said it will be up to the grand jury to determine the outcome. He said the shooting apparently happened during an argument.
