Laurel's mayor vetoes CAO ordinance

Where the city of Laurel's future chief administrative officer will reside is in question again.

Mayor Melvin Mack has vetoed an order the council approved Tuesday requiring the city's next CAO to live within the city limits.

Mack said after being advised by the city's attorney, vetoing the order was a must. Mack said the council failed to follow the state statute requiring the council to have a first and second reading of an ordinance before voting.

Ward Six Councilman Johnny Magee, who placed the order on the agenda, said the ordinance will be resubmitted at the next council meeting.
