Lumberton approves budget three days after deadline

City leaders in Lumberton said they are back on track with an approved budget three days after the state deadline.

Mayor Larry Strahan said a budget was approved last night with a unanimous vote from the board of aldermen.

Recently city leaders were at odds with one another over whether to approve a budget created by a former city clerk or a more recent version drafted by one of the board members.

Strahan said the more recent version was approved and will also allow the salaries of the mayor and board members to be reinstated after they were reduced to one dollar a month to save money.
