GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Hurricane Gustav flooded more than
1,500 homes in Washington County earlier this month, but Gov. Haley
Barbour's request for federal disaster relief funds has so far gone
The governor requested the disaster relief funds from the
Federal Emergency Management Agency on September 10 to help
homeowners rebuild and repair their properties.
Greenville Mayor Heather McTeer Hudson traveled to Washington,
D.C., last week to urge federal officials to approve the funding.
Arkansas, Louisiana and Alabama, have been approved for disaster
relief funds for Gustav. If FEMA approves Mississippi's funding
request, eligible area homeowners can receive up to $28,000 to
rebuild or repair their homes.
