Some of the alleged illegal immigrants arrested at Howard Industries are wondering why they have not received their last paychecks.
The 595 detained workers are being held in a facility in Jena, La. Representatives from the Mississippi Immigration Rights Alliance showed up at the Laurel plant Thursday with about 200 family members.
They demanded Howard Industries pay the workers for work done up until the August 25 raid. Many of the detainees have signed over the power of attorney to family members. Officials with the alliance said Howard Industries has refused to release the paychecks.
A statement from Howard Industries said they were following government procedures for the turnover of checks.
