Jones County authorities searching for deadly hit-and-run suspect

Jones County authorities and state troopers are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that struck and killed a Laurel woman Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the driver abandoned his truck and fled into a wooded area near in the Hebron community.

Okeda Shelby, 22, of Laurel was struck by a 1998 green Ford F-150 pickup truck shortly before 2:00 a.m as she tried to cross Hwy 84.

Highway patrol investigators said Shelby and the occupants of the car in which she was riding were apparently involved in an argument.

The car stopped, and the woman got out. When she tried to cross the highway, the truck traveling eastbound hit her. The truck has been impounded and authorities are searching it for clues to its owner or driver.
