A Bassfield man is in custody after leading authorities on a high speed chase in Jones County.
He was arrested in a heavily wooded area near Ellisville after eluding police on foot.
51-year-old Asa Jeff Sanford was taken into custody around four o'clock this afternoon.
Authorities say the chase began this morning in Moselle. Sanford's truck was reported suspiciously parked in the driveway of a home. A Jones County deputy attempted to investigate and that's when Sanford fled. Authorities shot the suspect's truck tire after they determined he was using the vehicle as a deadly weapon. Sanford disappeared into a wooded area near ellisville until authorities arrested him several hours later.
Officials say Sanford is a convicted felon who was recently released from Parchman. Sheriff Alex Hodge says the suspect currently faces multiple felony charges including attempted vehicular manslaughter.
