Laurel has one last chance for annexation

The City of Laurel has one last chance at annexation next month before the state supreme court.

On October 6, the court is scheduled to hear the city's final attempt at annexation. In May of 2007, attorneys appealed Chancellor Charles Thomas' ruling on annexing Sharon and Shady Grove into the Laurel City Limits.

Chancellor Thomas Ruled they did not meet the criteria of need for expansion, path of growth, financial ability, and need for municipal services. The city has seen a decrease in population since the 1960s of around 10,000 people.
