US Rep. John Lewis speaks at civil rights reunion

INDIANOLA, Miss. (AP) - U.S. Rep. John Lewis says he is in awe

at the changes that have taken place in the Mississippi Delta since

the 1960s.

Lewis, a Democrat from Georgia, was the keynote speaker at a

reunion dinner that brought together veterans of the civil rights

movement in Mississippi.

Lewis was chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating

Committee and helped organize the 1964 voter registration drive

known as the Mississippi Summer Project. He told the movement's

veterans that work remains to be done in such areas as education

and health care.

The reunion was held by the Sunflower County Civil Rights

Organization. It brought together veterans of the Mississippi

Summer Project and other civil rights campaigns for a weekend of
