8 arrested in immigration raid set to enter plea

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Eight people arrested during a federal

raid at Howard Industries in Laurel will be asked Monday to enter a

plea on charges of using false Social Security and residency

The eight were among 595 suspected undocumented workers taken

into custody in an Aug. 25 sweep by Immigration and Customs

Enforcement agents at Howard Industries. They will be arraigned in

U.S. District Court in Hattiesburg.

The seven Mexicans and one Guatemalan were charged with using

stolen identities, including one who used the Social Security

number of a dead person, to gain employment.

Most of the other undocumented workers were sent to a federal

facility in Jena, La.

transformers to medical supplies.
