Dietician Pam Carr writes:

JR was just diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes in July. This competition will be a great opportunity for him to lower blood pressure and improve glucose control through weight loss. He eats out a lot due to work schedule and time restrictions with small baby. He is willing to make dietary changes.

I recommended the following: (1)8 c water daily, (2) chew food slowly, (3) don’t skip meals, (4) keep food diary.

JR has been placed on 2200 calorie diet.

JR lost 5.2 lbs this week for a total of 17.6 lbs. He is doing a great job. Today is JR’s birthday! He plans to go out to dinner after our weigh-in meeting is over. It is a good thing that tonight we were discussing healthy menu options. JR is in second place for highest percentage of weight loss. Great job JR and keep up the good work!

WEEK FOUR UPDATE

Counselor Martha Rosado writes:

JR lost 0.4 lb this week for a total of 18 lbs. He was pretty mad at himself when he stepped on the scales. He admits to exercising less often this week. He is determined to “go for it” this coming week. We still have 8 weeks to go -- I know JR could be a real threat if he chooses to step it up!

WEEK FIVE UPDATE

Dietician Pam Carr writes:

JR lost 5 lbs this past week for a total of 23 lbs. He is very close to that 2nd place spot. Linda, watch out. JR is pleased with his progress and has gotten back on track with his meal plan and exercise routine. He even told me that his blood sugars have improved greatly since he began this program. That is so awesome to hear. Way to go JR!!! Keep up the good work.

WEEK SIX UPDATE

Dietician Pam Carr writes:

JR lost 5.4 lbs this past week for a total of 28.4 lbs. He has lost a total of 21 inches. JR is closing in very close to that 2nd place spot of most % of weight lost. JR has begun running. He is up to 1.5 miles. That is very impressive. JR deserves an “A” for effort. He brought his baby with him to the video blog and to the group meeting today. He could have easily used that as an excuse to skip out today. What a great commitment to the competition! Awesome work!!

WEEK SEVEN UPDATE

Dietician Pam Carr writes:

JR is in 3rd place in the most percentage of weight lost. JF lost ~ 1 lb this week for a total of 29.2 lbs. JR has not had a good week either. He hurt his knee and has had to limit his exercise. I know that this is frustrating for him since he has been doing so well. Hopefully, he will have a speedy recovery. Hang in there. It is very important to watch those calories now that the exercise is limited.

WEEK EIGHT UPDATE

Dietician Pam Carr writes:

JR lost 6.2 lbs this week and lost the most weight of the group this week. He has lost a total of 35.4 lbs. I admit that I was a little worried about him. After hurting his knee, I was worried that his weight loss would be much less this week. JR has been able to ride the bike, and his knee is feeling better. Now that is perseverance!

WEEK NINE UPDATE

Dietician Pam Carr writes:

JR was not able to attend the weekly weigh-in due to a business meeting. JR did participate in the “My First 5K” this past weekend. He beat his previous time from a couple of weeks ago. Way to go! Keep up the hard work.

WEEK TEN UPDATE

Dietician Pam Carr writes:

JR lost 4 lbs this week for a total of 37.8 lbs. JR has recovered from his knee injury and has been running in 5K races for the last several weekends. I am glad that he has found a type of exercise that he enjoys. Keep up the great work. You have lost the most weight in the group!!!
