Yolanda Baker

Dietician Pam Carr writes:

Yolanda started making better food choices once she found out that she had been selected to participate in the biggest loser contest. She drinks at least 8 cups of water daily already. She brings frozen meals with her to work to eat for lunch.

Some of the frozen meals have high sodium intake. She has lost 35 lbs before on a diet program, but she gained the weight back.

She stated "you are looking at the winner." I like her attitude. I recommended the following: (1) continue with current water intake, (2) eat food slowly, (3) keep food diary. (4) Limit daily sodium intake to 2300 mg.

Yolanda has been placed on 1800 calorie diet.

Week Three

Yolanda lost 5.2 lbs this week for a total of 12.4 lbs. Yolanda has had some difficulty planning her meals daily to meet her daily calorie goal of 1800 calories. I actually meet with her on Wednesday to help her with making healthy choices. She is fearful of eating carbohydrate because she has a friend that has been told not to eat carbohydrates when trying to lose weight. Hopefully tonight’s meeting helped her understand that this is not true. Weight loss is achieved by consuming fewer calories than you burn. Carbohydrates are an essential food that our body uses for fuel. Many times extra calories come from adding fats or double portions of carbohydrates. Yolanda left the meeting in much better spirits than last week. She is very dedicated to losing weight, and it evident to everyone. Great job Yolanda and keep up the hard work! It will pay off in the end!

Yolanda lost 1.4 lbs this week for a total of 13.8 lbs. Yolanda has been giving her very best effort. She has not missed a day of exercise. She is very committed to this program. So of course, she was disappointed that the weight loss was not more this week. Yolanda, keep up the hard work. I know that you can do this!!

Yolanda lost 2.4 lbs this week for a total of 16.2 lbs. Like Alicia, Yolanda has been hitting the gym very hard. She wants to lose more weight considering how much she is exercising, but she is happy that she continues to lose weight every week. She is already noticing her clothes are fitting looser. I love her determination. She is doing such a great job. Keep you the great work!!!!

Yolanda lost ~ 1 lb this past week for a total of 16.6 lbs. She has lost a total of 11 inches. Yolanda was very disappointed in her lack of weight loss this week. Alicia was very comforting to her because she was in her shoes last week. Everyone encouraged Yolanda to keep pressing on. Yolanda plans on meeting with the exercise physiologist tonight, and once she does this we will evaluate her meal plan. I know that Yolanda has not been “cheating” on her diet. Yolanda, you are doing such a good job. You are working so hard. You still have 6 more weeks. I know that you can do it!

Yolanda had an awesome week. She left last week feeling down, but she left today with a smile on her face. She met with the exercise physiologist last week, and she adjusted her exercise program. Yolanda lost 7.4 lbs last week for a total of 24 lbs. This was definitely the boost that she needed. Awesome job! Keep it up.

Yolanda lost 1.6 lbs this week for a total of 25.6 lbs. Her weight loss was not as significant has last week. She has been very strict in following her meal plan and exercise plan. So I decided to decrease her calories to 2000 a day. I know that this week will be a better week. Keep up the great work!

Yolanda gained ~ 0.4 lbs this week. She has lost a total of 25.2 lbs. We were both surprised that she did not lose weight this week. I decided to repeat the body composition on our scales. This actually showed that in three weeks she had lost 9 lbs of fat and gained 1.5 lbs of muscle. Yolanda has noticed the last couple of days that she has been retaining fluid. I questioned her recent diet history which revealed a pretty high sodium intake the last couple of days. This excess sodium intake could be one reason why she did not lose weight this week. We discussed ways to limit sodium intake. I know that she will have better weight loss results next week. Keep up the hard work!

Yolanda lost 4.4 lbs this week for a total of 29.6 lbs. Yolanda did make some changes in her sodium intake the past week. She has a couple of more weeks to go. She will easily break the 30 lb weight mark. She has done a great job!
