Gustav quickly strengthening

Tropical Storm Gustav is quickly gaining strength.

In just the last few hours, Gustav has roared to near hurricane strength again, after stalling overnight in the Caribbean. Forecasters expect it to become a hurricane later today.

Maximum sustained winds are blowing near 70 miles-per-hour. Forecasters expect Gustav to pass close to Jamaica today. A hurricane warning is already posted.

Forecasters expect Gustav to continue gaining strength and eventually become a major hurricane. It's projected to hit the Gulf Coast at the end of Labor Day weekend, and it could be a Category 3 storm by then.

    The Forrest County Board of Supervisors recently approved a paving project that reaches inside the city limits of Hattiesburg. The projects include a stretch of Jackson Road that runs from Rawls Springs Loop Road to near the Longleaf Trace Jackson Station and another at Sullivan Kilrain Road North of Highway 11, which extends all the way to the railroad tracks at the Lamar County line. “50 percent of the road and bridge taxes that are collected gets split betwee...
