Lumberton's city clerk has turned in her resignation citing problems with Mayor Larry Strahan.
Joann Ladner, who was appointed clerk in April, turned in her notice to the board of aldermen Tuesday night.
In her letter, Ladner accused Strahan of verbally, physically and mentally abusing her. The two have been at odds since she was hired, prompting Strahan to suspend her with pay.
Ladner has come under fire from a Lumberton mayor before. Former mayor Greg Colley tried to have her fired in 2004 for approving holiday pay with out his permission.
Ladner's resignation is effective Sept. 4.
