Laurel man in jail after gun exchange leads to death

A Laurel man is behind bars for allegedly shooting an acquaintance Sunday evening.

Johnny King Jr. was arrested and charged with manslaughter for the death of Roger Mims.

Authorities said the two men were exchanging the gun in front of Mims' house on Custom Avenue. Police said the gun accidentally went off and struck mims in the lower stomach.

Mims was pronounced dead on the scene. Authorities said an autopsy will be performed.

King's bond was set at $50,000.
