Former JCJC coach arrested, charged with sexual battery

A former Jones County Junior College Cheerleading coach is in jail in Lamar County, charged with three counts of sexual battery.

Shane Wagner, who at one time was also a Hattiesburg Police Officer, was arrested by investigators from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations. Wagner served an as adjunct cheerleader coach at JCJC for 18 months.

Wagner made his initial court appearance before Justice Court Judge Carol Ann Bustin Tuesday morning in Purvis.

State investigators have not commented on the nature of the charges or when the alleged incidents occurred.

School officials said his contract was not renewed in July. School officials said they have been contacted by authorities and are cooperating with them.

We are told that Wagner leased space and was teaching cheerleading for some area students.

    Jones County Sheriff's deputies arrested two people for drug possession and trespassing Friday. A deputy responded to a possible trespassing complaint at a residence in the 400 block of Trace Road in northern Jones County where deputies found Justin Sellers, 32, of Sandersville, and Amber Ray Smith, 26, of Laurel, partially clothed and passed out in a vehicle, according to the press release.
