Two Petal men arrested for selling stolen cars for scrap

Petal authorities have charged two men with grand larceny for allegedly stealing junk vehicles to sell for scrap metal.

Ronald McTire and Claude Evans, both 44, made their initial court appearance in Petal Wednesday. Bond was set at $5,000 for McTire and $20,000 for Evans because of a previous criminal history.

Authorities said a citizen spotted the two leaving the old fair grounds on Hwy 11 Tuesday. Police believe the duo stole junk vehicles from First Choice Auto Sales.
"It was later determined that it was a grand larceny taking place where both white males were taking the junk vehicles from the junkyard to Shempers," said Sgt. Gavin Guy with the Petal Police Department.

Authorites said there may be more charges filed related to destroying private property because the two men drove through a fence.
