UPDATE: Hattiesburg woman killed by train, now identified

A Hattiesburg woman was killed this morning after she apparently tried to crawl under a stopped train.

Coroner Butch Benedict said Amanda Gail Whitney, 29, apparently got tired of waiting for the stalled train to move so she could get to the other side of the railroad tracks.

She was trapped and killed by the train around 3 a.m.

Benedict said the train may have been stopped for about 30 minutes at the James and Williams Streets intersection.

Benedict said from all indications, Whitney decided to crawl under the train, and it began moving.
