Columbia funeral home burns to ground

Fire investigators in Columbia are trying to figure out what caused the Cook and Galloway Funeral Home to burn early Tuesday morning.

Fire Chief Larry ratliff said the family-owned funeral home on the 1000 block of West Avenue has been in operation for more than 70 years.

It took fire fighters hours to get the blaze under control.

"It was hard to put out," said Ratliff. "We had to call in for some volunteers to help us out and everything, but it went real well, nobody got hurt or anything like that."

No word yet if the funeral home owners plan to rebuild.
