ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) - The city of Itta Bena will beginning
enforcing a daytime curfew this school year.
Police Chief Marvin Flowers says no kids are allowed on the
streets from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m when school is in session.
The first time a truant student is caught, police will hold them
until a parent picks them up and pays a fine.
If they're found skipping school again, they will be taken to
the juvenile detention center in Greenwood. The fines will increase
with each offense.
The daytime curfew enforcement is part of a larger effort by
Flowers, who has been on the job about four months, to improve
safety in the town.
