Children's museum breaks ground in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A groundbreaking ceremony has been held

for the $24.5 million Mississippi Children's Museum.

The museum is scheduled to open in early 2010. It will be

located at LeFleur's Bluff State Park in Jackson.

Organizers say more than $19 million has been comitted to the

museum's capital campaign. Fundraising is ongoing for the planned

40,000-square-foot facility.

The museum will have five major themes: heritage, literacy,

health and nutrition, cultural arts and science and technology.

Junior League of Jackson president Renee Ebner said on Friday

that the project will give Mississippi students a valuable learning

resource and be a major tourist attraction.

The Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration is

overseeing the construction bidding process, and bids will be

opened on Thursday.
