The Mississippi Department of Transportation said they had no problems Tuesday when they opened up parts of the new I-59 in Laurel.
The northbound lanes were open around 11 a.m. on the newly constructed bridge replacing the old "S-Curve."
Drivers were also able to use the new Beacon Street ramps to get on and off of the new bridge. The exits are closed.
MDOT officials said the southbound lanes will be open in several weeks, but in the meantime, drivers heading south on I-59 will have to use the old "S-Curve."
