Laurel Firemen have voted against going to a third platoon shift.
The 64 firemen voted Friday on a city administration request for the department look into the possibility of going to a third shift.
Fire Chief David Chance said a third platoon would cut down on overtime, but a majority of firefighters like it the way it is.
Although it is not known if City Hall will pursue the issue, Council President George Carmichael said the council will never approve it.
He said the administration is in favor of the idea, but the council is not.
