Hattiesburg officer promoted to sergeant

He is a familiar face with the Hattiesburg Police Department, but now his uniform is a little different.

Officer Mark Mitchell was promoted to sergeant Friday during a brief ceremony at police headquarters. Mitchell began working for the department in September of 2002, and will now be placed with the department's strike team.
"This is an honor for me to be able to come here today and recognize his efforts in law enforcement, and we going to go ahead and confer the rank of sargent to Officer Mark Mitchell," said Police Chief Frazier Bolton.

Bolton said Mitchell's promotion is the fourth sergeant ranking he's given since he took office.
