Lumberton petition heading to the governor

Lumberton residents looking to have the Board of Aldermen removed from office continued their petition drive.

Monday, residents went door to door seeking additional signatures for the petition.

Resident Jack McMullen said that as of early Monday, they had approximately 430 signatures, well over the 351 needed in order to present the petition to the governor.

Residents canvassed wards one and two, and on Wednesday they intend to go door to door in wards three and four. A meeting for concerned citizens is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the Ben Barrett community at 6 p.m.

Mcmullen said once all signatures have been verified as registered voters, the petition will be presented to the governor.
