Children's camp celebrates 47 years

The Abbie Rogers Civitan Camp is celebrating their 47th year. The camp serves children and adults with disabilities.

This week the camp is hosting children ages 21 years and younger. They participate in activities like swimming, and canoeing, plus they make crafts and socialize. Another component to the camp are the volunteers. Each camper is paired with a teen volunteer, and they make lasting friendships.

"We have typical camping activities that you would find at any camp and then it's swimming, arts and crafts, boating, canoeing, fishing and then all of the activities run typically," said Terri Daniels with the camp. "I mean we have adaptations for people who need to participate differently."

Next week the camp will host 100 adult campers, ages 22 through 65.
