Lumberton man killed in train collision

A Lumberton man was killed Wednesday in a car-train collision at a crossing on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Lumberton.  

Witnesses say the victim tried to cross the tracks with the crossing guard arms down when the train struck him broadside, knocking the car nearly 300 feet down the tracks.  

The Norfolk Southern freight train was headed south when the collision occured.  

The name of the victim has not been released.
