Mississippi Department of Transportation personnel will be conducting a hurricane evacuation drill on I-59 in south Mississippi today.
The so-called contraflow, or lane-reversal drill is part of the State Highway Department's hurricane preparedness efforts.
It will not involve actual lane closures or reversals, but workers will be given assignments on where to take equipment that will be used in the exercise. The drill is part of a plan to allow more Louisiana residents to flee their area in the event of a hurricane.
Interstates 59 and 55 will be used in the event of an actual hurricane.
