Lumberton mayor unable to terminate employees

The jobs of two Lumberton city employees remain safe this morning after the board of aldermen met Tuesday.

Mayor Larry Strahan had asked the board to immediately terminate City Clerk Joann Ladner and Police Captain Ray Wally. The board went into executive session, and by the time it was over more than an hour later, the two still had their jobs.

Also at the meeting, the board finally approved the purchase of a garbage truck. Trash started piling up after the city's current truck broke down.
