Hattiesburg police to add six more officers

A small group of Hattiesburg men woke early Thursday, five miles from their dream of becoming new officers with the Hattiesburg Police Department.

It is called the last run, and six cadets started on Lake View Road for photos and motivation before heading out on foot toward the police department.

The run completes 16 weeks of intense training to become a police officer. Ten of the men who began the training didn't make it this far.

"We're looking for the highest quality of men and women to be part of our ranks at the Hattiesburg Police Department," said Frank Misenhelter, Assistant Chief of Police. "High standards, character, integrity and honor, that's the things that we look for to be the best police department in the state of Mississippi."
